Rachel Therrien – “Mi Hogar LL”

Mi Hogar II is the eighth album by Canadian trumpeter, composer, producer, and bandleader Rachel Therrien.

It continues the musical journey she began with Mi Hogar and showcases her deep connection to Latin jazz and Afro‑Caribbean rhythms, blending them seamlessly with contemporary jazz fusion.

The title Mi Hogar (Spanish for “my home”) reflects Therrien’s strong sense of community, cultural roots, and personal artistic identity. The album features a rich ensemble of world‑class musicians, with performances recorded across Montreal, Toronto, and New York City.

Across its 7 tracks, Mi Hogar II explores a variety of Latin jazz styles — from the spirited Afro‑Cuban rhythms of “Fiestas Campesinas” to the reflective ballad “Back Home” and the dynamic “Mambo ‘Chucho’ Influenciado.” The record blends traditional elements like changüí, bolero, and mambo with modern jazz improvisation and ensemble interplay.

This album is marked by Therrien’s expressive trumpet and flugelhorn playing, strong compositional voice, and her ability to bring together jazz tradition and innovation.

Her Latin Jazz Project for this album includes collaborations with top musicians such as John Benítez (bass), Manuel Valera (piano), OKAN (vocals), Danae Olano (piano), and Luis Izquierdo (bass), among others.

Mi Hogar II has been praised for its sophisticated fusion of Latin rhythms and jazz harmonies, reflecting Therrien’s global musical influences and deep artistic vision.
