Boricua Legends brings the spirit of classic Puerto Rican salsa into the present with “Candela, Candela,” the title track from their 2026 album.
Led by veteran percussionist and musical director Pedro “Pocholo” Segundo, the project pays tribute to the powerful sound and traditions of salsa while incorporating a contemporary production.
“Candela, Candela” was composed and arranged by pianist, composer, and producer Javier Fernández, with lead vocals by Víctor García. The song captures the energy of traditional salsa, driven by percussion, piano, brass, and an unmistakable rhythmic pulse.
Released in 2026, “Candela, Candela” is a celebration of Puerto Rican salsa and the musicians who continue to keep its rich musical tradition alive.
About the Artist
Boricua Legends is a Puerto Rican salsa ensemble founded and directed by veteran percussionist Pedro “Pocholo” Segundo. The group was created in 2011 as a tribute to the legendary musicians and traditions that helped shape the sound of Puerto Rican salsa.
With a musical career spanning more than five decades, Pocholo Segundo has performed and recorded with some of the most respected names in Latin music, including Celia Cruz, Héctor Lavoe, Andy Montañez, Ismael Miranda, Jimmy Bosch, and José Alberto “El Canario.”
Through Boricua Legends, Segundo brings together experienced musicians and vocalists to preserve the energy of traditional salsa while giving the music a contemporary voice.
The group’s 2026 album Candela Candela continues that tradition, celebrating the rhythmic power, musicianship, and enduring spirit of Puerto Rican salsa.
