Puerto Rican salsa returns with festive energy in “La Sequía Navideña,” the latest release from the distinguished Orquesta Abran Paso, a group dedicated to preserving the rich tradition of classic salsa.
Founded in April 1999 in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, by musician and bandleader Luisito Figueroa, Orquesta Abran Paso has built its musical identity around the powerful sound of traditional salsa, inspired by the golden era of the genre.
A Legacy Rooted in Classic Salsa
From its beginnings, the orchestra has maintained a strong connection to the sounds and arrangements that shaped Puerto Rican and New York salsa.
Its musical journey has included performances and collaborations with renowned figures of Latin music, such as Adalberto Santiago, Ismael Miranda, Luigi Texidor, Meñique, Camilo Azuquita, Pichie Pérez, Choco Orta, and Tito Allen.
The group’s musical identity is deeply influenced by the legacy of Larry Harlow, who played an important role in its early history.
A Festive Return to the Salsa Scene
With “La Sequía Navideña,” Orquesta Abran Paso brings its distinctive salsa sound to the Christmas season, delivering a festive musical offering filled with the energy and joy associated with Puerto Rican holiday celebrations.
The release follows the orchestra’s 2026 album Tradición Latina, an eight-track production that continues its commitment to traditional Latin music.
Through its latest recording, Orquesta Abran Paso celebrates the enduring spirit of salsa and the musical traditions that bring generations together.
“La Sequía Navideña” is another celebration of Puerto Rican salsa, carrying forward the rhythm, tradition, and festive spirit of the Caribbean.
