Conjunto Imagen is a New York-based salsa and conjunto group founded in 1989 by percussionist Ernie Acevedo and tres player Jr. Rivera. The group has built a long-standing reputation for its traditional approach to salsa, son montuno, and Afro-Caribbean dance music.
Their latest release, “Tres Marías,” revisits a composition associated with legendary Cuban composer and son innovator Arsenio Rodríguez. The recording maintains the classic conjunto spirit while adding a powerful contemporary arrangement by Kevin Figueroa.
The track features lead vocals by Franklin Corrales, with musical highlights including a tres solo by Jr. Rivera and a trumpet solo by Pete Nater. The ensemble features tres trumpets, baritone saxophone, tres, congas, bongó, piano, bass, vocals, and coros.
With its strong rhythmic foundation and traditional son-based character, “Tres Marías” is a natural fit for listeners who appreciate authentic Cuban son, salsa, and classic Latin dance music.
