The icon of Cuban urban music, Ramón Lavado Martínez, known worldwide as El Chacal, presented “Despelote”, a new single that promises the beginning of a great recording project.
It’s not just a title; it is a direct invitation to liberation and joy, with a word that resonates deeply in Cuba and the world. The Jackal explains the motivation behind the song: “Despelote transmits fun. When people want to leave their stress, live in the real moment and forget about all things, they ‘get out of the way'”.
For the production, El Chacal collaborated with the talented Aaron J and Frank Palacio. On a sound level, the song presents a key innovation: “We moved the key not to cast time, but to Afro time. Everything can have a key, but if we move it to an appropriate time, in this case an afro, it works the same.”
Audiences will also notice a different approach to his lyrics, now less romantic than before.
In relation to the growth of the “cast” genre internationally, El Chacal considers the appearance of new exponents “great”. “I think it’s the first time we have something really original. We have an urban sound totally from Cuba, and that is the cast,” he said.
“Despelote” is the tip of the iceberg of a musical explosion that he has prepared. It is a series of releases that will definitely give a 360-degree turn to his career.
“We are going to be working on many projects at the same time: several EPs with bachata, casting, ballad, reggaeton. Everything within my reach is going to be put on the musical table,” said the singer.
Ramón Lavado Martínez (Havana, February 8, 1986), known artistically as El Chacal, is one of the most important leaders and innovators of the Cuban urban movement. He began his career in 2003 with his own band, Los Chavos. He joined the prestigious Clan Group 537 and later joined the duo Chacal y Jakarta.
In 2017 he won a Premio Lo Nuestro in the category Collaboration of the Year – Urban and received a nomination for an iHeartRadio Music Awards for the international hit “Ay, Mi Dios”.
