What began as a personal struggle for Cuban entrepreneur Doreen Gutierrez has grown into a beauty brand celebrating a decade of innovation. This year, Bana Cosmetics celebrates its tenth anniversary by announcing a brand refresh and the launch of Bana Skincare, a new medical-grade skincare line designed to provide advanced care for mature skin.
From a young age, Gutiérrez immersed himself in the world of art and performance. She was a flamenco dancer, choreographer and teacher, disciplines that gave her stage presence and taught her the transformative power of makeup. At the age of 17, after emigrating to the Dominican Republic, she began a career as a model, becoming the image of important magazines and campaigns thanks to her flawless skin. But after a severe allergic reaction to a renowned makeup brand, her modeling career came to a sudden halt and her personal skincare adventure began.
Determined to reinvent herself, Doreen studied Journalism and Marketing, trained as an Image Consultant and for more than 15 years ran a successful med spa, where she listened to the stories and difficulties of her clients on a daily basis. These experiences gave her a deeper understanding of beauty, not just as aesthetics, but as a matter of health and confidence.
In 2012, she ventured into the media, becoming the host of the popular television program Diario de Belleza in the Dominican Republic, and later expanding to radio. The daily use of commercial and heavy makeup, necessary for her daily appearances, caused new allergic reactions and severe skin breakouts. This challenge became the final push to create their own formulas.
After years of research and collaboration with Los Angeles labs, in 2015 Doreen launched Bana Cosmetics, a clean beauty brand, free of parabens, irritants and harmful chemicals, designed to enhance without harm.
Since its inception, Doreen Gutierrez has had the collaboration and scientific support of her husband, Dr. Eduardo Cardona, professor of aesthetic medicine and skin health. Her experience has helped elevate Bana’s philosophy and new formulas, ensuring products that fuse beauty, science and skin protection.
Over the past decade, Bana has expanded from the Dominican Republic to Miami, gaining loyal customers who believe in uncompromising beauty. With the launch of Bana Skincare, the brand evolves into the next decade with clinically advanced formulas, staying true to its founding promise: beauty with purpose.
“Bana was born out of my own challenges with allergies and skin damage,” says entrepreneur and founder, Doreen Gutierrez. “Ten years later, our mission remains the same: beauty with purpose, products that make women feel confident without sacrificing the health of their skin. And having Dr. Cardona’s support and expertise has been key to taking Bana to a new level of science and trust.”
The anniversary celebration in Miami will bring together media, influencers and beauty professionals, highlighting a decade of resilience, artistic talent and innovation in the clean beauty movement.
Doreen Gutierrez and Dr. Eduardo Cardona are co-hosts of the podcast “Diario de Belleza.”
