Her four year stay in Havana inspired Belgian singer Mari Bel to compose her own songs. Most of them are about her experience in Cuba, written in different languages.
During the pandemic, she collaborated with talented Cuban jazz musicians to compose and arrange them.
Over 50 different Cuban musicians recorded on her album “Encuentro – a tribute to Cuban jazz”.
Most of them met each other during regular jam sessions at Mari Bel’s apartment on the 28th floor on Havana’s Malecón, where the views of the city and the ocean inspired them to improvise and create music together.
After presenting her album at the Havana jazz festival on 23 January 2022 with over 20 special guests from the Cuban jazz scene, Mari will present it in NYC with a smaller format of NY based musicians, playing together for the first time.
